this is “marlo” {sweet, but not sleepy baby!}

Marlo was waking just as I arrived to photograph her on Thursday morning.  I was warned by her mom that she was in quite an unusually cranky mood!  However, we found a solution…. Marlo LOVES having her picture taken!  She hammed and grinned for the camera for at least an hour, and made my job as easy and fun as it can be.  If you’re ready for your weekend to begin after a hard week at work… this little 11-month old is a great way to get a grin on your face.  Enjoy!

I couldn’t pick a favorite at first either – I loved the hands up in the air, but love the close ups with the slight look of mischief and excitement in her eyes too! I think you need them all as a series though!!!

Naomi - February 3, 2009 - 9:47 pm

Wow, hard choices as they are all really lovely. I like the atmospheric shots to round out the album. I agree with Julie’s comments. You couldn’t go wrong with any of them. I especially like the far right shot on the 6th line. Nice work making her Mommy and nice capturing her photographer

marsha - February 2, 2009 - 11:32 pm

Wow she is adorable, I need a cuddle!

Elaine Evans - February 2, 2009 - 9:41 pm

What an adorable baby!

Zina Sherman - February 2, 2009 - 9:38 pm

Wow…..great job….what a willing subject, and so great looking…..so what if I’m a
prejudice Grandma…..loved it all.thanks

Cindy Rosen - February 2, 2009 - 7:54 pm

Amy – You are the master! I absolutely LOVE visiting your website and enjoying fabulous images of such gorgeous children and families. You have the gift! – Cindy

Helen - February 2, 2009 - 3:32 pm

What a cutie pie!

Sarah - February 2, 2009 - 11:58 am

These photos of Marlo are so natural and sweet! What a darling girl.

Alicia - February 1, 2009 - 9:00 pm

I love the one in stripes by the chair. They are all wonderful! Amazing photos of an amazing girl!

Jessica - February 1, 2009 - 1:21 pm

These are beautiful!!!

Tom - January 31, 2009 - 10:01 am

Beautiful girl! Photos make her come alive!

Tim - January 30, 2009 - 9:49 pm

Alright, it is time for Melanie to tell us who the real father is.

Tim

Rongoldsbcglobal.net - January 30, 2009 - 8:37 pm

She is so beautiful. These are all great. I love the first and the last one and the hands in the air, but I f I have to choose one it would be the hands in the air. It would look great sitting on my desk so I can look at it all the time.

robin - January 30, 2009 - 7:28 pm

These are wonderful! She’s got a killer grin. I love the last one – she looks like she’s about to tell a really interesting secret.

Kimberly - January 30, 2009 - 7:08 pm

I am so in love with your chandelier shot with mom and baby unfocused behind. So sweet!

Marcia Metzger - January 30, 2009 - 4:31 pm

HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!! No, no, no. . .HANDS UP!!!!!!!!!!! This is the winner! Mel, they are all great; however, there is something about Marlo throwing her hands in the air that makes me grin!!!!!!!!! When a woman throws her hands in the air. . .whether she is 11 months or 11 years plus, it speaks many words!

Tiffany Alexander - January 30, 2009 - 4:30 pm

So many great photos! If forced to choose….bottom picture gets my vote. I also love the mom laughing in the mirror and 5th row left photos. She’s beautiful, those eyes..

Jenefer Angell - January 30, 2009 - 4:26 pm

Wow, that IS such a hard choice, but I guess I’d say #86 as well (black & white, hands over head).

(Note: I can’t see the bottom pic #105.)
Thanks for the boost. These pictures make me so happy I had to laugh out loud! Those teethe are so cute they’re killing me. I love the ones of her on the changing table, and of course the first one, too. :)

Brenda - January 30, 2009 - 3:25 pm

Great work. My favorites are the two (side by side) with the stuffed animal and the very last one. It is apparent you love your work because every shot is filled with joy.

Kurt - January 30, 2009 - 3:09 pm

They’re all heartbreakers. The photo next to “tada!” (arm’s up) is a sleeper–there’s a funny little knowing look on her face that’ll still be there when she’s older. I love the photos with the stuffed dog, the photo with mom laughing in the mirror is terrific, and the bottom photo is just a killer–but I keep going back to that photo just to the left of “ta da!” That’s my pick.

Anne - January 30, 2009 - 2:54 pm

The eyes in the bottom one are beyond adorable. That’s my vote!

Michael Cowan - January 30, 2009 - 2:54 pm

My favorite is “of course” the standing chair picute: http://www.movingpicturesblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/074.jpg

Jake - January 30, 2009 - 2:53 pm

What a cutie! Love the pics – thanks for sharing!

bill hays - January 30, 2009 - 2:49 pm

My favorite is the third one from the right in the row with 4 pictures. She is looking over her shoulder with that look in her eye.

Kraig Hiersche - January 30, 2009 - 2:47 pm

What a ham! Great pics!

Julie @ the calm before the stork - January 30, 2009 - 2:16 pm

She is so adorable! I love that smile, and those eyes! Good job Mama, and beautiful work Ms. Photographer!

Mel, I don’t know what to advise; they’re all great pics. Maybe the one with her arms in the air?

Jack - January 30, 2009 - 2:01 pm

The picture at the bottom is the most artistic. However, if Marlo needed a picture for her first book dust jacket, I’d have to suggest the picture in the fifth row, on the viewer’s left.

Andrew - January 30, 2009 - 2:00 pm

Bottom pic is the best by far….

Melanie Dabareiner - January 30, 2009 - 1:57 pm

I am having such a hard time picking a favorite. These pictures are all so great. If it has to be just one, I would say it is the black and white picture of Marlo holding both hands up in the air. Ta da!

casting call {free creative session for twins!}

It occurred to me that I’ve never really had the opportunity to photograph twins, and it’s something I’d really love to do!  So, I decided to put a little contest out there and featured it on Urban Mamas, and here on my blog, so it’s up to you to spread the word for me!

I’m looking for twins of any age, really, who are interested in (or whose parents are interested in!) having some creative portraits made.  The session will be free of charge and there is no obligation to purchase prints.  An online gallery of images will be provided to view, share, and order prints if you wish to do so.

Since I can’t offer a free session to everyone who writes to me, I thought I’d turn this into a bit of a contest.  Let’s make it interesting!

  • Email me a photo of the twins you’d like to have photographed.  If they are not your son(s) or daughter(s), please make sure you have permission from their parents before submitting a photo.
  • Write a little something special about these twins.  If you are a twin or triplet representing yourself, write a little something that you feel is special about your relationship with your brother(s) or sister(s)!
  • Your entry will be posted on my blog, so keep that in mind!
  • Get your friends/family to visit your entry on the blog and leave comments about what they think is special about these kids.

And that’s it!  Winners will be chosen within a few weeks!

this is “bennett” {sweet, sleepy baby!}

I really do have the best job in the world.  Getting to spend days with brides and grooms and families and babies is so awessome, especially on mornings like this one.

Today I met Bennett, born nine weeks early and going strong!  I got to hold and play with him for a bit while his mom, Melissa got his bath ready and he just felt so GOOD!  After his bath, Bennett played for a while in his mom’s lap, had some grub and was sleeping, still, when I left.  He’s a tiny little thing, but as you’ll see from his photos he has big personality and a lot to say with those great big eyes.  Thank you, Melissa!!!!

Amy - January 23, 2009 - 5:39 pm

Can everyone see the tooshie photo next the one of him grinning in the bath? Some people are saying it’s not showing, and that sudsy little rump has GOT to be seen!

Ali - January 23, 2009 - 5:25 pm

Amy – I don’t see the little rump shot…there looks like there is a space for a photo that’s missing…is that it? I love bottom pictures!

Cynde - January 23, 2009 - 4:44 pm

All so cute! So hard to pick one – but I like #16.

Amy - January 23, 2009 - 4:07 pm

I vote for number 18. It was hard for me to narrow it down.

Eva - January 23, 2009 - 3:54 pm

I like #16, the b&w with both Melissa and Bennett. Great pictures, it was difficult to choose!

Melissa - January 23, 2009 - 3:47 pm

Being his mother it’s hard to pick a fav but I would have to say #2. His smile is so sweet!

Amy - January 22, 2009 - 11:04 pm

I vote for #5 because of the sweet little tears in his eyes catching the light!

this is “reid” {sweet, sleepy baby}

This is Reid… he’s 3 months old!  Reid was fascinated by my camera today and looked straight into my lens for almost the entire shoot.  (Except while sleeping, of course.)  He is a sound sleeper while his big sister is not in the house, and he was sleeping when I arrived today.  Hopefully I’ll meet his big sister at the beach this summer for a family shoot!  Thank you, Reid… for being so sweet.  Love those cheeks.

I like all of them, but my favorite is the last one where he has a great big smile.

Tina - January 24, 2009 - 9:27 am

Great photos! I, too, particularly like the black and whites. My favorite has to be the one with Reid sleeping sweetly and the monkey applique on his chest waving to the admiring observer.
